There are 24 hours in every day. That’s it. There is no negotiating, or haggling. That is all the time that you get. Time does not care what your stage is in life, where you live, how smart you are, or how much money you have. Everyone gets 24 hours a day to get everything done that they need to. Work, chores, activities, personal time, social interaction, sleep and the millions of other thing that we do in day all fill up those 24 hours. Your choice is how you spend each of those precious hours.

We prioritize the things in our lives that are most important and weigh what we spend our time on based on what we care most about. It’s a series of choices, and we don’t always even realize we are choosing. We waste minutes throughout the day between tasks with distractions and ‘breaks’. We don’t always think of time as a commodity, especially not when we have an abundance of it to spend.

This has been my biggest challenge over the past few months in particular. How I can find time to do all the things I need to do over the course of the day, while still having time to sleep, eat and take some time to relax. So what’s the answer? What is the magic formula to beat time?? Well I don’t really have a good answer for you unfortunately. It comes down to just getting done what you can

Making lists helps me a lot. It keeps me on track and working towards what I need to get done first, rather than blindly wasting time deciding what I need to accomplish. It also puts into perspective your daily goals, saving that overwhelming feeling of the weight of all your tasks. It can also help to carry over things not complete to the next day, when you run out of time.

The early bird gets the worm! Ok maybe that is an annoying saying, but it’s not inaccurate. It can be very hard to get out of bed early in the morning, but I find that when I do I end up with a few extra focused hours I can get some quality work done. It also means earlier to bed, but it does give the feeling of getting more done even though the amount of time is the same.

Automation is the biggest time saver. In the digital age more and more options are becoming available to help automate our lives. I use as many tools as I can get my hands on. Computer systems can save some precious moments of time by handling every day tasks for you. Even things as simple as automating bills can save precious time. Technology is the future, why not take advantage of the tools we have at our finger tips?

Either way it can be a challenge that makes time one of the biggest nemesis in our lives. You can make more money if you need it, you can gain more knowledge by going back to school, but you can never make more time. 24 hours is all you got, how will you make the most of it?
